Millers of Speyside Sustainability Statement

Based in the heart of the Scottish Highlands, Millers of Speyside are committed to being sustainable and environmentally efficient, blending into the rolling countryside of the Cairngorm National Park.

We challenge our suppliers to follow our sustainability values.

Livestock is sourced locally from farms in and around the North East of Scotland reducing unnecessary road miles in heavy vehicles and giving the animals a less stressful journey to us.

Refrigeration plays a key part in our business maintaining temperatures to ensure our products are kept in a food safe environment. We have recently invested in upgrading our refrigerant to the latest carbon friendly IR449 version which meets all new legislative requirements.

Powering our plant requires reliable Electricity supply to ensure continuous working of our Refrigeration, Sterilising Equipment and Lighting. We employ the services of Schneider to source our Electricity and who actively commit to “sustainable development goals”. They have contracted our electricity supply to ORSTED who are world leaders in renewable energy and openly advertise their power to be 100% generated from wind turbines.

Packaging is important to ensure our products are stored and delivered in a food safe and hygienic way. Over the years we have tried different types of boxes, for both economical and reliability purposes; we also had to ensure that being a paper-based product, the supplier would be achieving their sustainability commitment in line with Millers of Speyside. Our packaging supplier is recognised Europe wide and works with natural and completely recyclable materials. Their recovered paper contains valuable fibre which can be used up to seven times in the production of board, making our box packaging a truly sustainable product.

Logistics and Distribution
is carried out on vehicles that meet the latest Euro 6/7 emissions regulations. We plan our deliveries so that more goes onto less, reducing the quantity of movements that would normally require more vehicular use and more handling. We have area specific delivery days so we can collate deliveries onto less vehicles reducing heavy traffic in and around our base. Our supplier deliveries have been reduced following the investment in our new 20,000 sq ft warehouse, again reducing heavy vehicle movements in our base area as we can now accept larger quantities of dry stock on less vehicles.

Our Commitment to maintain sustainable working practices continue
